My grandson Bryce founded this blog on September 6, 2010 – my 79th birthday. He gave me my assignment. I am to post once per day until I turn 80 next September. At that time, I will have revealed to you 365 of my Secrets of Life. You will be permitted to leave comments (no cussing allowed) but not to report me to the authorities. And since these are top secret, you must not reveal them to anyone. Otherwise, yes, there will be consequences.
Well, as they say, time marches relentlessly on. Since I’m now going on 92, I’m starting to post once again, but this time, weekly, instead of daily. So please stay tuned. I would change the name of the blob to “going on 90” but then, what would I call it when I turn 99.

Love the blog and I think I figured out Pat’s first secret.
No one should waste any precious moments sleeping. Sleeping is underrated!! ha ha.
Pat,
I should have known you could write like this. I love reading it like I love you!!! Keep them coming. You are too good. No wonder Gretchen is who she is: the apple does not fall far from the tree. Thank you for being in my life and thank you Gretchen for linking me to this blog!!!
Love, Debbie
Pat, I love your insights. Your lilting style and whimsical anecdotes are a great attribute to a wonderful lady.
Thank you for your encouragement and support,
Jeff Lancaster
Pat,
I discovered your blog when browsing Facebook today. I don’t go on very often, but do just to keep in touch with old friends. Gretchen mentioned it on her Facebook. While I should be decorating and other Saturday chores I have planned, I have been scanning your blog. I particularly enjoyed your post today. You are an amazing writer!!!! I look forward to reading more.
Leslie (Gretchen’s friend from around the corner in high school.)
I just saw your blogg today, and I read about Nellis Langaker, the brother of Gunnar who was married to Gladys. They were distant cousins of my mother, and I remember Gunnar and Gladys visited us in Stavanger, Norway. Perhaps I can have more information about them. I did not know that Nellis married and would like to know more about his family. Nelles and Gunnar were my mother’s second cousin. My mother is now 93 years old and still living in Stavanger.
Nelles and Alma (Kleppe) Longfield were my uncle and aunt on my Dad’s side of the family — Alma and he were sister and brother. I would love to share family info with you. I was in Norway in 2007 and visited the Kleppa farm. Also made a quick tour of Karmøy where Dad and Alma’s mother came from.
Mom:
I know you’re 80 years old and everything, so you don’t have to write everyday…but I keep checking the blog in the hopes that you will have surprised us with a new missive! Please, don’t be cruel…how about sharing a little video from Fred…or a brain teaser…or even a random family video. C’mon, I know you’ve got some new ideas percolating in that octogenarian brain of yours.
