Have you ever finished reading an article but it isn’t finished with you?  I read this one several days ago, but I’ve been haunted by it ever since.

If you haven’t already, try to scratch out the time to read the recent Time magazine cover story about Singularity.  The seductive title is:

How it ended up on tonight’s blob, is because someone wrote a guest editorial in the Seattle Times that appeared this morning.  The writer suggested that one of the seemingly impossible tasks we could turn over to the computer of the future would be balancing the budget.  What an interesting idea!  But why not now? Why wait for Singularity?

This could be Watson’s new job now that he finished his gig on Jeopardy.  Feeding in all of the tons of information about our federal or state money, hopes and plans to such a supercomputer might yield a budget which is politically pure, but rich on the logical balancing of needs and wants.  We could call it the “Smart Budget”, as opposed to the ones we’re probably going to get.

Well, more about this later. According to the Singularity article, within 30 years of so, man may become immortal.  I guess that means us, too, ladies.

I’ll have to think about this. I’m still getting used to the idea that in the year 2045, Octo-woman will be going on 114.  With my luck, when they transfer my brain into my stylish and carefully-selected robot, it’ll be the kind that only has a one-year warranty.
